About Patrick Boyd Multihulls
Patrick Boyd Multihulls is one of the foremost and longest-established multihull specialists in the world. Since 1975 PBM has offered a first-class brokerage list and has sold
over 1,300 cats and tris - some of them more than once. Since 1999, the company has also acquired the agency for some of the best new designs around, including the entire range of Privilège sailing catamarans and
Transcat power cats. This wealth of experience, from marine finance to racing sails but above all knowledge and love of multihulls, has made PBM a respected and trusted name
in yacht brokerage, with satisfied buyers and sellers around the world.
Sailing multihulls since childhood, Bill Bullimore was YW Catamaran European Champion as a teenager. At eighteen, he built his own Tornado in which he was 5th in Worlds, and funded a Tornado Olympic campaign in 1976 from his yacht delivery company 'Multihull Deliveries'. Later, he fitted out a 53' cat in the UK and sailed it to Greece to charter.
He was a professional yacht skipper in the Mediterranean and Caribbean for eight years. He also holds an instrument rated commercial pilot's license, flew hang gliders internationally for 10 years and now flies performance sailplanes, holding all 3 diamond badges.
During his 18 years in the West Indies, where he started 5 marine-related businesses, primarily involved in sailmaking, he also developed various marine-related companies, all of which still thrive today and also found time to build a Crowther Twiggy Mk II trimaran, which recently won its class in the very gruelling Round Britain and Ireland Race.
Bill has worked in detail with many designers and multihull projects including many large trimarans and catamarans. In the Technical Consultancy, if it was a racing multihull around 40’ in UK waters, Bill probably was involved in its specification!
Bill recently built a Shuttleworth Ocean Cheetah 38 and owned from new a Privilege 495, so he has recent experience of being both owner and distributor! He has also provided specialised multihull service in the form of expert witness, acting on behalf of the Buyer and both new build and refit project management.
Following his purchase of PBM in December 1997, the business moved to Bill's part of the country on the south coast of England, and to its present location at Wicormarine in 2002. Bill is currently the Chairman of ABYA (Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents), which has been, since 1913, the industry’s professional association.
Christine Bullimore runs the administration of PBM and brings her long-term IT and organizational skills into play, well-knowing that sailors can be sometimes more focused on sailing, rather than correct documentation and procedure!
She worked for some years with BP Shipping at senior corporate level. Previously sailed on the Blackwater, Crouch and Channel, she is also well travelled to Australia, Africa and US continents, together with Far East and Caribbean.
Christine speaks fluent French, some Spanish and Dutch and is familiar with EU lifestyles and laws, having lived on the European continent for over 20 years, during which time she was also Deputy Chair of European Management Assistants.
In her spare time she enjoys competition level archery, also sails/glides/motorcycles/travels with her husband Bill.
The company was founded in 1975 by Patrick Boyd. During the later part of his 18 years in publishing, Patrick wrote his definitive book "Catamarans in Close-Up"
and built one of the first Mk I Iroquois catamarans. In 1973, he set up the London office of Camper & Nicholsons, establishing a large yacht brokerage and
charter business, to which later in 1975 he added a separate multihull division.
In 1983 he extracted the multihull side, renamed it "Patrick Boyd Multihulls" and ran it successfully for fourteen years becoming a leading industry figure. In 1987 he was elected President of the YBDSA and to the main council of the
BMIF. In 1997 he sold Patrick Boyd Multihulls to Bill Bullimore, but continued to act as a consultant, advisor and friend to the business until his death at 73, in September 2001.
PBM is more than just a brokerage company. The experience we have gained through years of business and thousands of transactions is something that can be immensely valuable to our clients whthere they are buying or selling their boat, building from plans or refitting for blue water cruising.
